On the Scene in Williamsburg

Call them hipsters if you want (though we suggest you don’t), but there’s no denying that Brooklynites know how to have a good time – especially if they live in Williamsburg. In order to find out more about the Williamsburg scene we sent Edith Zimmerman, editor of The L Magazine, on a tour of her favorite local spots – via L train of course.

If you want to put a spin on the traditional dinner and a movie, Edith recommends Monkey Town, a Leonard Street space that mixes experimental cuisine with experimental art. You can eat a unique meal in Monkey Town’s front dining room or head to back to take in a creative short film or video art.

If your pursuits are strictly culinary, you may want to head to Dokebi, a cozy lounge that serves up Korean food. The restaurant’s moniker is said to translate to “devil, and perhaps that’s a nod to devilishly good dishes like traditional bibimbap, noodle stir fries and smoked meats that they’ll barbeque right at your table.

You’ll be the epitome of cool if you check out Edith’s picks…not that you ever cared about being cool.
